The
activity we are going to describe is Unit four: “Let´s celebrate”, fourth
grade. The theme of this activity is celebrations of the continents of certain
countries around the world, considering a brief description of the country,
typical holiday, and its traditional meals. The general objective is that through the use
of digital tools in conjunction with the information available be able generate
and expand knowledge about some cultures and festivities held in 13 countries
around the world, also to identify and relate them to each other, from this way
also form a feeling of appreciation and respect for the different ethnicities
and customs that exist in the world. It is focus on developing mainly writing
and reading comprehension skills. This activity consists on showing specific
photographs and pieces of writing giving specific details about 13 countries
and its most important festivity, its typical food, and vocabulary related to
the topic. It also include an digital platform called H5p to show information
in a more “funny way” and gives you the link of an app called “lets celebrated”
where you download and have access to games related to the subject.
I
select this activity for the same reason that called my attention it seems to be quite dynamic, with interesting and accurate
information about celebration around the world. And what called my attention
was the use of platform such as H5p and a mobile application that can help you
to engage students with the topic by allowing learning occurs unconsciously. The
benefits of using this activity is not only that helps to facilitate the
acquisition of knowledge related about different cultures and its celebration
but it is created in a way that also you to promote the use of new technologies
in the process of learning a new language and at the same type recognize the
existence of different cultures and respect and value them.
I
would adapt or implement this activity in my teaching practicum with a little
warm up to know their previous knowledge about the subject and then reducing a
little bit of the writing part and try to put specific and the most relevant
information. Try to implement
videos/audio and realia to address the different learning styles of my students
and let them to do the exercise in groups at first to make them feel more
comfortable doing this activity.
